EZ is a new lossless data compression algorithm. It is a kind of precompression algorithm that shifts the data bits to an optimum sequence to achieve an higher compression ratio. This sequence can be thought as a model. Every file type has its own optimum sequence, a model as expected. Modeling for each file type is needed to have a better compression ratio. However, this modeling requires a tremendous CPU and HDD work. Therefore, development process of EZ is very slow.
Since it's a precompressor, EZ needs another compression software like nanozip, PAQ etc. The best auxiliary compressor is nanozip which has a higher compression ratio and performance.
Precomp which is developed by Christian Schneider can also be used with EZ to increase compression ratio. On the other hand, EZ has also some other tricks like EZ_NZ to compress nanozipped files.
As a result, EZ is in the alpha state. I've just completed its core code, but many compression tests are still in progress.
EZ doesn't aim the possible maximum compression which takes hours for a small file like PAQ8. The main purpose of EZ algorithm is to achieve the best compression performance ( compressed bytes / time ) to be an ultimate compressor.
